Hercules and his sisters Athena and Aphrodite were born at Catty Shack Ranch on September 10, 2002. Their parents, Zeus and Topaz, were great crowd favorites and have since passed away. The litter proudly bears the names of Greek gods and goddesses. In Greek mythology, Heracles or Hercules was the strongest of all mortals, even stronger than many gods. He was the son of the god Zeus.

Our Hercules’ parents were not white tigers. Zeus was a handsome orange colored tiger and Topaz was a beautiful golden tabby tiger, creamy colored with orange stripes. Both must have carried the recessive white gene resulting in Hercules’ white coat.

Hercules loves to watch visitors, volunteers and especially vehicles pass by his enclosure. As his food is delivered in a gator, he hopes that all vehicles carry a tasty tidbit especially for him. His ability to chase the vehicles has diminished as his eyesight is compromised. He has glaucoma in one eye and a detached retina in the other. His blue eyes are cloudy and opaque. He sees shapes and shadows and can jump up onto his resting platforms and den box. He climbs over the edge of his pool to enjoy a refreshing swim or to drown an enrichment toy.

We are grateful to many local veterinarians who generously donate their time and expertise to help our animals. Hercules has benefited from the care of Dr. Brown, a local veterinary opthalmologist. Hercules’ sister Aphrodite helps him also by being an extra pair of eyes to depend on. If he has any doubts about maneuvering around, she guides him and nudges him in the right direction.

Hercules has a calm demeanor. He enjoys being talked to and calmly listens to every word. As a trusted friend, he never reveals any of the secrets he’s been told. His coat is lushly fluffy and his face always bears a friendly curious expression. When he washes his paws, you get a glimpse of his pink toes and foot pads. He is a wild animal and we very much respect him as such. But he certainly is a cute and cuddly looking one!

At Catty Shack Ranch, Hercules enjoys a healthy diet of raw meat with vitamins and supplements appropriate to his species, age and current health conditions. All our animals receive regular veterinary care and are very much loved.
