BABY

Baby arrived at Catty Shack Ranch on March 24, 2022. She was just shy of a year and a half old when she arrived, having been born on October 12, 2020. She came to us from a properly licensed private individual.

Baby spent some time in quarantine when she arrived, which is standard practice for all new residents. She was observed by our veterinarian and checked to make sure she was healthy. During that time, we renovated a vacant habitat to make it more suitable for a cat of her size. She got new platforms, a new den box with wood chips to relax in, and toys spread throughout her area.

Baby, like our other animals, was born in captivity. As a species, caracals are native to drier areas of Africa and the Middle East. The caracal’s name is from a Turkish word that means “black-eared.” The species is best known for its long ear tufts that give it the nickname of the desert lynx. You will notice them right away when you see Baby. You will also notice her golden brown coat which seems to shimmer in the light. Having Baby at Catty Shack Ranch will allow visitors to learn more about this beautiful species.

We are grateful to be able to provide a safe, loving forever home to Baby and all our animals. Baby enjoys a healthy diet of raw meat, portions appropriate to her age, size, and nutritional needs. All our animals receive regular veterinary care and are very much loved.
